It’s Picnic Time for Teddy Bears, Everyone! By T. Lee Thompson

Funny story: I’ve been channelling someone’s energy in my consciousness that appears very angry for the last two weeks. I couldn’t figure out how to alchemize or transform this energy that seemed to follow me everywhere I went. I was losing my patience often, copiously swearing like a trucker (no offence to truckers out there, love you guys) and driving like I was in the Indie 500. It seemed like I wasn’t myself, but then again, I’m not myself…at least not my old self. The woman I used to be, you know, the one that was a people pleaser, self-effacing, overgiving, that person doesn’t exist anymore. I’m still kind, loving, and giving, don’t get me wrong, but I have better boundaries now than before.

So, this feeling seemed to perplex me, and I was wondering if this shadow side of me was the new me, and I didn’t like that feeling. So, I was wandering around my little duplex like I do, talking to myself, wondering why I was acting like this. What can I do to change this feeling? Suddenly, I started to sing a song an old boyfriend of mine had taught me years ago, and it always made me laugh.  It’s the Teddy Bear Picnic song, a nursery rhyme sung to little boys and girls in the 50’s and 60’s just before bedtime.

It was made famous by singers like Bing Crosby and, in Canada, by renowned singer Anne Murray. Some of the words go like this: “If you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise.” If you go down to the woods today you better go in disguise! For every bear that ever there was, Will gather there for certain, because today’s the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic. Picnic time for Teddy Bears: the little teddy bears are having a lovely time today; watch them catch them unawares and see them picnic on their holiday.

Soon, I was laughing and marching around the house happily, transforming that anger into a nursery rhyme that brought back memories of laughing at an old boyfriend as he suddenly marched around like a little kid…. The thought of this made me laugh and quickly lifted me out of the angry place I was in. I was laughing for a couple of days and happily singing the chorus. It’s picnic time for Teddy Bears who never have a worry or care (I changed the words a bit)

Sometimes, inspiration comes to us in the oddest ways, helping to transform feelings from anger into laughter, and I’m happy that I was able to do this for myself. It quickly helped me make my days go by lighter and less anxious than before, but it also showed me that I’m now picking up others’ energies more than ever before.

I wonder if others are picking up on other energies more than ever. Or is it just me? Anyway, it’s picnic time for Teddy Bears, everyone! Keep laughing and smiling, and maybe pick up a Teddy Bear costume for Halloween. Just kidding around…have fun, everyone, and learn to transform angry feelings into happy feelings.
